NEWTON, NJ – Sussex County Community College (SCCC) Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon), and National Fitness Campaign (NFC), are introducing a new outdoor Fitness Court® Studio designed to promote health, wellness, and physical activity among students and members of the community.
The Fitness Court® is part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Fitness Campaign (NFC), which works to improve health outcomes and expand access to outdoor fitness opportunities across the United States.
Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend the Fitness Court® ribbon-cutting and grand opening at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. The Fitness Court® is located along College Hill Road on the upper SCCC campus. The event will include an opportunity to tour the Fitness Court and learn about the 7 stations and Studio classroom.
This Fitness Court® Studio was developed by Sussex County Community College, Horizon, and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities across the region. The Fitness Court® is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets users leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.
Designed for individuals ages 14 and older, the Fitness Court® offers exercises that can be adapted for a range of abilities and fitness levels, allowing participants to exercise safely and comfortably at their own pace. Sussex County Community College is one of the first twenty Campaign Partners building a network of Fitness Courts across the state, with the help of Horizon.
Users may also download the free Fitness Court® App, which serves as a “coach in your pocket” and transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. The app provides guided workouts, instructional videos, fitness challenges, and other resources.
