$300,000 in grant funding available for municipalities, schools, and communities in 2023

HONOLULU, HI, and SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Hawai‘i Medical Service Association and National Fitness Campaign are teaming up to bring grant funding for up to five outdoor Fitness Courts® to communities across Hawaii. The partnership provides world-class fitness, redesigning the built environment to improve overall quality of life through easy access to outdoor exercise programs. NFC’s award-winning initiative is planning its 500th “healthy community in America” and is poised to deliver vital outdoor wellness programs to help fight the obesity epidemic across the country.

The Fitness Court outdoor gym is designed for adults of all ages and abilities and is fully accessible and equipped to provide workout programs. Visitors can go to a Fitness Court and use the free Fitness Court app to access a series of seven-minute workouts designed by leading experts in functional fitness and bodyweight training. The app also provides digital coaching for support and regular content to keep training fun and interesting. There may also be opportunities for free fitness classes through an ambassador program featuring local trainers.

“HMSA is proud to be a part of an effort that will bring community organizations and government agencies together to provide exercise courts that are accessible and free,” said Jennifer Diesman, senior vice president, government policy and advocacy at HMSA. “Physical fitness is important for overall health and well-being, and it’s exciting to be a part of this community health initiative.”

“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome HMSA as its state sponsor for Hawaii,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of NFC. “This investment in healthy communities across Hawaii will deliver tremendous resources to contribute to the important mission of fighting obesity and improving health outcomes as the network of Fitness Courts and wellness programs grows across the state. We look forward to working with HMSA to make this campaign a great success for Hawaii residents.”
