Reno, Nevada (Sept. 23, 2025)— The City of Reno, in partnership with Renown Health and National Fitness Campaign, are excited to debut two new outdoor Fitness Courts® to give residents equitable access to exercise in the City. The new Fitness Courts® are located at Brodhead and Damonte Ranch Parks.
Fitness Courts® are outdoor, circuit training-style areas designed to provide users of all ages and abilities with a full-body workout using only body weight. Each Fitness Court features seven workout zones, each targeting a specific fitness element: core, squat, push, lunge, pull, agility, and bend.
On Thursday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m., the City of Reno and Renown Health will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Brodhead Park Fitness Court®. The event will include a special head-to-head fitness demonstration between teams from Renown Regional Medical Center’s intensive care units and emergency room. In addition, ambassadors will be available every Saturday morning through October to help community members learn how to use the app and court to support their fitness goals.
“I am truly excited to welcome these new fitness courts to our community and to our City’s parks,” said Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor. “This is an example of how the City creatively leverages grants and partnerships, like those with Renown Health and the National Fitness Campaign, to expand opportunities for our residents and promote a healthier, more active community."
In March 2024, the City was awarded the National Fitness Campaign’s 2024 Renown Health Nevada Campaign Grant totaling $120,000 to support the construction of the courts. Council also approved an additional $294,000 from Residential Construction Tax to fund the remainder of the projects.
"Proximity to exercise opportunities, such as parks and recreation facilities, has been linked to an increase in physical activity among residents,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President & CEO of Renown Health. “Regular physical activity has a wide array of health benefits including weight control, muscle and bone strengthening, improved mental health and mood, and improved life expectancy. We are proud to facilitate the development of these fitness courts in Nevada and bring additional access to exercise opportunities, at no charge, to everyone in our community.”
These are the eighth and ninth Fitness Courts® Renown Health has opened in the state of Nevada. Two more Fitness Courts® are being built in Fallon and West Wendover.
Residents can access free workout programming by scanning a QR code located on-site of each Fitness Court®. These workouts will help residents learn how to use the equipment, leveraging body weight to complete each of the court’s seven stations. The workouts are all adaptable to accommodate all abilities. Each Saturday in October, the community can join the River Rangers at 9 a.m. to learn how to use court and keep the park activated year-round.
“We are excited to have the City of Reno join us in the journey to improve health and wellness as we work to make a powerful and long-lasting impact on health outcomes and happiness by building healthy communities across America,’’ said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the outdoor Fitness Courts®, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
Community Fitness Day at Damonte Ranch Park
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the City will host a free Community Fitness Day at the newly minted Fitness Court® at Damonte Ranch Park. The event starts at 9 a.m. and is sponsored by Ward 6 Councilmember Brandi Anderson. Attendees can enjoy free paletas (while supplies last), while they learn about how to use the fitness court from a fitness court ambassador. Ambassadors will also be on site at every Saturday morning through October to show the community how to utilize the app and court to reach their fitness goals.
Additional highlights include free face painting courtesy of Renown Health, music, and family-friendly fun for all ages. Representatives from Reno’s Police and Fire Departments will engage in some friendly competition as they will tally their times and repetitions to see who is the fittest.
“This new Fitness Court at Damonte Ranch Park is a great addition to this outdoor space that is enjoyed by so many in our community,” said Ward 6 Councilmember Brandi Anderson. “I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone of all ages and abilities to this free Community Fitness Day on September 27.”
