On a sunny 75-degree day in Randolph, Massachusetts, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. brought brothers, sisters, and community members together for a Fitness Court workout, a yoga session, and a conversation about prostate health that no one in attendance will soon forget.

The Strongest Sigma Challenge (SSC) Fitness and Fellowship Meet-Up at the Belcher Park Fitness Court in Randolph, Massachusetts was a tremendous success. Beautiful weather, strong community turnout, and a program that wove fitness, wellness education, and brotherhood together made for a morning worth sharing.

In total, the event welcomed 13 Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., 2 Sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and 2 guests. As participants arrived, they were greeted by an information table featuring literature and promotional items from the American Cancer Society, with an emphasis on prostate cancer awareness and prevention. Attendees were encouraged to speak with their healthcare providers about prostate health and PSA testing, and pamphlets were available to take home.

A hydration and nutrition station stocked with Poland Spring Water, Liquid I.V. Hydration packs, CLIF Protein Bars, and Chiquita Bananas kept energy levels high throughout the event. The importance of staying hydrated, taking appropriate breaks, fueling the body properly, and listening to your body during physical activity was a thread woven throughout the day.
SSC Cofounder Richard P. Farmer, Jr. welcomed and thanked everyone for attending before introducing Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor Amandi Brown of C.R.A.W.L. The fitness session began with light stretching before moving into a full circuit workout on the National Fitness Campaign Fitness Court.

Participants rotated through the various stations, performing exercises for approximately 90 seconds at a time, including lunges, push-ups, dips, high jumps, and other functional movements. Each station was completed at least once, with the circuit wrapping up with jumping jacks. In total, the Fitness Court workout lasted approximately 45 minutes.
Following the workout, participants took a hydration break while the group reinforced the importance of healthy nutrition and maintaining an active lifestyle.
The group then transitioned to the field for a 30-minute yoga session also led by Amandi Brown. His peaceful instruction and encouragement allowed participants to work at their own pace while experiencing both the physical and mental benefits of yoga. Calming, relaxing, challenging, and liberating were the words used to describe it. It was a fitting close to the physical portion of the event.
A morning that meant something
The Strongest Sigma Challenge closed the gathering by expressing appreciation to everyone who participated, and to Amandi Brown, the National Fitness Campaign, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and the American Cancer Society for their support and contributions toward making the event meaningful and impactful.

The SSC Fitness and Fellowship Meet-Up is exactly the kind of community activation the Fitness Court at Belcher Park was built for: a free, accessible public space that any group can gather around, build a program on top of, and make their own. The Strongest Sigma Challenge plans to host another one soon.
