A new Fitness Court at York Alternative Learning Center gives Dublin residents a free, world-class place to get active, right in the heart of their school community.

When Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) set out to bring a Fitness Court Studio to its campus, the goal was straightforward: make high-quality fitness genuinely accessible to the students, families, and neighbors who live and learn in the Dublin community. What opened in April 2026 at York Alternative Learning Center is exactly that: a free, seven-station outdoor gym nestled at the west end of the track between Wells Middle School and Valley High School, open to anyone 14 and older, every day.

The project was developed in partnership with the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) and received meaningful local support from Fremont Bank and Roebbelen Construction. It is a testament to what becomes possible when a school district, local businesses, and a community-minded organization decide that free access to fitness is worth investing in together.

A district that believes access is everything

Superintendent Chris Funk has been clear about the philosophy behind this investment from the beginning. For a district that serves approximately 12,800 students from preschool through adult education, creating infrastructure that benefits the whole community is a natural extension of that mission.

"We know that access matters when it comes to health and wellness. By bringing a Fitness Court and supportive programming into our community, we are helping remove barriers and ensuring that more students and families have the opportunity to engage in regular physical activity." The Fitness Court Studio at York Alternative Learning Center is not just a piece of equipment. It is a deliberate act of equity, placing world-class outdoor fitness infrastructure in a location where it can serve the broadest possible cross-section of the community, from students to seniors, from athletes to first-timers who have never had easy access to a quality workout space.

What the Fitness Court Studio offers

The Fitness Court features seven bodyweight exercise stations targeting core, squat, push, lunge, pull, agility, and bend. Every station is designed to be adaptable, allowing users to work at their own pace and progress at whatever level suits them. There is no membership, no fee, and no barrier to entry beyond showing up.

Paired with the free Fitness Court app, which provides guided workouts and coaching across all seven stations, the Fitness Court becomes a digitally supported wellness experience that meets users wherever they are in their fitness journey. The combination of physical infrastructure and digital programming is part of what makes this a lasting community resource rather than simply a piece of outdoor equipment.

A partnership built on shared purpose

For NFC, the Dublin USD partnership reflects a broader mission to place a Fitness Court within a 10-minute bike ride of every American. The organization expects to reach its 750th healthy community in 2026, and DUSD is part of that growing network. NFC Founder Mitch Menaged spoke to what this project represents for the Dublin community:

"By bringing an outdoor Fitness Court and digital wellness programming to Dublin, the District is creating a lasting resource that supports physical and mental wellbeing while making fitness accessible to everyone. The addition of the outdoor Fitness Court and digital wellness programming reflects a meaningful investment in improving health outcomes and expanding opportunities for movement, connection, and wellbeing across the Dublin community." Mitch Menaged, Founder, National Fitness Campaign

The support of Fremont Bank and Roebbelen Construction helped make the project a reality, and their involvement reflects a community that is willing to invest in the health of its residents not just in words, but in action.

An open invitation

Whether you are a Dublin student looking for a place to train, a parent wanting to stay active close to home, or a community member who has simply never had a convenient, cost-free option for a quality workout, this space was built with you in mind.
