In partnership with municipalities, schools, and sponsors, over $100 million in public-private investment has been raised to combat obesity and the burdens of sedentary lifestyles. The Campaign provides expertise in building funding, masterplanning, and community engagement. Our mission is to build healthy communities with the goal of bringing the world's best outdoor gym -- The Fitness Court® -- within a 10-minute bike ride of every American.
The Problem: Nationwide Health Crisis

A decade ago, that number above was zero states. CDC data shows the prevalence of obesity shot up across all states in 2022 with every state and territory now having obesity levels over 20%. Each Fitness Court® is a One-Of-A-Kind Work of Art
Nestled between Washington, D.C. and Virginia's state capital, Richmond, lies the historic town of Dumfries. Known for its rich tradition and heritage, Dumfries is now gaining recognition for its forward-thinking Town Council and its Mayor, Derrick Wood. With a passion for health and wellness, Mayor Wood and the Town Council are revolutionizing the town, introducing the state's first Fitness Court® Studio with 2,000 square feet of free, world-class wellness programming.
Legacy Park in the City of Huntsville has walking trails, a children’s playground, spacious parking, and two entertainment pavilions, one of which comes complete with terraced seating. The main attraction, and the focal point right at the entrance of the new $4.6 million park, sits the city’s second Fitness Court® featuring a lively mural painted by local artist Jamal FRESKO Turner. Connected directly to the walking path in the neighborhood, residents are leveraging the Fitness Court® as the free alternative to the paid Fitness Center further down the trail.
Washoe County, NV
On a bright sunny day in September, Washoe County added a third Fitness Court® to their growing network (City of Sparks launched in the spring fo 2023) with two stunning Fitness Courts® in Rancho San Rafael and South Valleys regional parks. Each Fitness Court® features unique artwork from Reno’s own Remy Glock that highlight specific elements special to both parks they call home.
Bridgewater State University
On a sunny fall day, the campus of Bridgewater State University (BSU) was buzzing with excitement as they joined the Blue Cross campaign – the first higher education partners in Massachusetts. Located in a prime spot on campus at University Park, the Fitness Court® is not only open to the campus community but the public at large. BSU’s athletic teams plan to use the area for training and programming. Classes will also be taught in the kinesiology and exercise-science departments, integrating the Fitness Court® directly into the curriculum. In the fall 2023 semester alone, Campus Recreation hosted 18 classes.
The first official Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Fitness Court® launched in Mission in September 2022 at Hollis Rutledge Northwest Park. A champion for health, wellness and equity in Hidalgo County, the City of Mission’s launch event included Special Olympics Texas athletes to demonstrate the seven movement stations for any fitness level.
Making Hartselle bigger, better, and healthier – that’s Mayor Randy Garrison’s pledge. In August 2022, Hartselle was excited to bring free, equitable outdoor fitness to Sparkman Park thanks to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama campaign. The Fitness Court® at Sparkman Park adds to the rich amenities including sports fields, an aquatic center, a splash pad, an accessible playground, two 18-hole disc golf courses, and a 4.5-acre pond.
Grand Rapids, MI
The Priority Health Fitness Court® in Grand Rapids launched in August 2022 as a community showcase that garnered media attention with interviews from Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and Priority Health CEO Praveen Thadani. This location will provide 58,000 Grand Rapids residents access to walk or bike to the Ottawa Park Fitness Court®.
The City of Lewiston, Maine’s second largest city, welcomed the state’s first Fitness Court® in September 2022, just blocks away from Community Health Options’ headquarters. The picturesque backdrop of the Androscoggin River that accompanies Simard-Payne Park is a perfect location for The Fitness Court®, creating a space to promote social interaction, pedestrian movement and healthy living.
